Art Fair Update

Artist and Participants:

During the City Commission meeting on May 18, 2020, after a careful review of our recent recreation programs and the ways we can safely offer those programs to our residents, the recreation department recommended a tiered system of programming that will hopefully allow the city’s recreation programs to resume in full after Labor Day.

The first tier cancels all summer programming and events which would include the Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair through Labor Day.

When EO 2020-77 is no longer in effect, the recreation department expects there will still be safeguards in place to protect the public that will make it impossible to offer the type of programming our residents have come to expect in a manner that will be safe for everyone involved.

We will continue to work with our state and county officials on developing appropriate guidelines to gradually re-open and provide services to our residents, with hopes of being able to start all of our fall recreation programs after Labor Day.

The decision to cancel all of our summer programing and our art fair was not easy. The health and wellness of the public, our residents and our staff has been and will continue to be our #1 priority. The City of Royal Oak’s Recreation Department apologizes for any inconvenience this may have. We encourage everyone to practice safe and healthy measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Oakland County Health Division.

To all our patrons:

As we work to stay current and respond appropriately to the continually evolving (COVID-19) Coronavirus situation occurring across the nation, and in Oakland County, the City of Royal Oak recognizes that residents will be thinking about steps they can take to minimize the risk of exposure for themselves and family members, and may wish to avoid group settings whenever possible.

The City of Royal Oak remains focused on its plan for the 50th Anniversary of the Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair anticipated on Saturday, July 11, 2020 and Sunday July 12, 2020.

The Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair will be relying on the strong partnerships we have with our sponsors, exhibitors and spectators to deliver another amazing show for its 50th anniversary. We are working to deliver the same caliber of family-fun most have come to expect for the past fifty years.

However, if the Governor extends a requirement for social distancing into July, we will follow the executive order at that time in case a cancellation is required.

While our hope is that the current challenges of Covid-19 will significantly decrease, and normalcy will return soon, our priority is public safety.

Regards,

John Fedele
